Sexy, Seductive, and “Trapped”: Canadian Duo Release Provocative Single

Barbette Record’s latest single from Deanne Matley (feat. Azawka) offers a glimpse into a world of love, lust, frustration, pain, and the pursuit of cathartic release.

After a chance meeting in Montreal’s Mile End, Deanne Matley (a professional jazz vocalist from Calgary), and Alex Cook (a rock/hip hop-inspired drummer and producer from Halifax who performs as Azawka) quickly became friends.

When they both relocated to Montreal, Alex and Deanne decided to live together as a way to support and inspire each other as they established themselves in the city.

Although a collaboration project was not part of the original plan, it developed intuitively and naturally produced deeply satisfying results.

Recorded with the forever-funky Franky Selector at his studio in Old Montreal, their new single “Trapped” is a provocative ode to self-determination that combines Deanne Matley’s powerful vocals and lyrics with Azawka’s unique brand of electronic music composed solely on the Novation Circuit.

Le dernier single de Barbette Record (avec le producteur Montréalais Azawka) offre un aperçu d’un monde d’amour, de luxure, de frustration, de douleur et de soulagement émotionnel.

Après une rencontre fortuite dans le Mile End de Montréal, Deanne Matley et Alex Cook (Azawka) sont rapidement devenus amis. À l’époque, Alex venait de déménager d’Halifax, en Nouvelle-Écosse, et Deanne vivait à Calgary tout en se rendant régulièrement à Montréal pour enregistrer et jouer.

Rapidement, Deanne prévoyait de déménager à Montréal elle-même, alors Alex et Deanne ont décidé de vivre ensemble afin de se soutenir et s’inspirer mutuellement alors qu’ils s’établissaient à Montréal. Deanne, chanteuse de jazz professionnelle de Calgary, et Alex, un batteur et producteur inspiré du rock / hip hop des Maritimes était un match improbable. Mais l’accord de colocataires s’est avéré fructueux. Bien qu’un projet de collaboration ne faisait pas partie du plan initial, il s’est développé de manière intuitive et, naturellement produit des résultats profondément satisfaisants.

Enregistré dans le studio du funky Franky Selector dans le Vieux-Montréal, leur nouveau single “Trapped” est une ode provocatrice à l’autodétermination qui combine habilement la voix et les paroles puissantes de Deanne Matley avec le son unique de la production électronique d’Azawka.

Lorsque vous écoutez “Trapped”  c’est la rencontre de Morcheeba et Portishead avec une touche insolite.
