Canadian Jazz Singer Deanne Matley has been singing full-time with Western Canada’s Top Big Band for over ten years. Above all, one of her favourite gigs as a Canadian Jazz Singer is singing with an 18 piece big band. Firstly it allows her to really step into her role as a performer. Secondly, it is such a great way to communicate and connect with her audience. Although she now spends most of her time out East, she is thrilled and honoured to perform with them when back in her hometown Calgary.

Over the past twenty years, Prime Time Big Band has enjoyed a “steady” Saturday afternoon two-hour jazz gig at The Ironwood Stage and Grill in Calgary, Alberta. Big band jazz from the 1940s to the present day, including hits from the Buddy Rich Band, the Bob Florence Big Band, the Stan Kenton Band, the Count Basie Big Band, the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Big Band and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and other big bands are featured.
Captain Dave Jones formed Prime Time Big Band in 1994 after serving in the Canadian Forces Music Branch as a trumpeter and conductor for over 27 years. Comprised of Calgary’s top professional musicians, the band rehearses weekly. Since the beginning, they have performed hundreds of engagements featuring jazz artists. Some of these artists are such as P.J. Perry, Guido Basso, Alastair Kay, Bobby Shew, Phil Nimmons, Sean Jones, Wycliffe Gordon, Allen Vizzutti and Doc Severinsen.
The band has a current library of over six hundred compositions. Some of these include Big Band Swing, BeBop, Latin, Contemporary Jazz Standards, Popular Tunes and Rock. It also has a dance library of over four hundred arrangements of all styles from the 1940s to today.
